We had an incredible turn out today at our International Literacy Day event.

There were plenty of book donations, and plenty of books sold to fundraise for the Society of St Vincent De Paul refugee tutoring groups.

It was so lovely to have everyone come along (most in costume – hooray!) and share from their favourite books.

As I said today being teachers it is not only about being able to read and write, there is so much to offer out students than ticks or crosses on their essays.

Sharing your love for literature is both liberating and somewhat therapeutic, sharing favourite poems or excerpts or even just recommending a magazine to someone can sometimes change everything for that person.

I have no doubt that in the future these events organised by Education at JCU will be bigger and more successful each time.

Thank you to everyone, and enjoy your reading evening!
